The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, nor to worry about the future, but to live the present moment wisely and earnestly.


Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth.


In the end these things matter most: How well did you love? How fully did you live? How deeply did you let go?


There are only two mistakes one can make along the road to truth; not going all the way, and not starting.


Health is the greatest gift, contentment the greatest wealth, faithfulness the best relationship.


We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves.


Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened.


Happiness never decreases by being shared.


If you truly loved yourself, you could never hurt another.


Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without.


There is nothing more dreadful than the habit of doubt. Doubt separates people. It is a poison that disintegrates friendships and breaks up pleasant relations. It is a thorn that irritates and hurts; it is a sword that kills.


Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned.


However many holy words you read, however many you speak, what good will they do you if you do not act on upon them?


No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path.


Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn’t learn a lot at least we learned a little, and if we didn’t learn a little, at least we didn’t get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn’t die; so, let us all be thankful.


To keep the body in good health is a duty… otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear.


To enjoy good health, to bring true happiness to one’s family, to bring peace to all, one must first discipline and control one’s own mind. If a man can control his mind he can find the way to Enlightenment, and all wisdom and virtue will naturally come to him.


The mind is everything. What you think you become.


Your purpose in life is to find your purpose and give your whole heart and soul to it.


You can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and that person is not to be found anywhere. You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserve your love and affection.


Just as treasures are uncovered from the earth, so virtue appears from good deeds, and wisdom appears from a pure and peaceful mind. To walk safely through the maze of human life, one needs the light of wisdom and the guidance of virtue.


When you dig a well, there’s no sign of water until you reach it, only rocks and dirt to move out of the way. You have removed enough; soon the pure water will flow.


Whatever words we utter should be chosen with care for people will hear them and be influenced by them for good or ill.


You only lose what you cling to.


Your work is to discover your work and then with all your heart to give yourself to it.


We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts, we make the world.


It is better to travel well than to arrive.


Doubt everything. Find your own light.


The whole secret of existence is to have no fear. Never fear what will become of you, depend on no one. Only the moment you reject all help are you freed.


Every morning we are born again. What we do today is what matters most.


A man is not called wise because he talks and talks again; but if he is peaceful, loving and fearless then he is in truth called wise.


Better than a thousand hollow words, is one word that brings peace.


In a controversy the instant we feel anger we have already ceased striving for the truth, and have begun striving for ourselves.


Even death is not to be feared by one who has lived wisely.


There is no fire like passion, there is no shark like hatred, there is no snare like folly, there is no torrent like greed.


All wrong-doing arises because of mind. If mind is transformed can wrong-doing remain?


Purity or impurity depends on oneself, No one can purify another.


No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path.


True love is born from understanding.


To conquer oneself is a greater task than conquering others.


You will not be punished for your anger; you will be punished by your anger.


There is no path to happiness: happiness is the path.


If your compassion does not include yourself, it is incomplete.


Pain is certain, suffering is optional.


Long is the night to him who is awake; long is a mile to him who is tired; long is life to the foolish who do not know the true law.


To understand everything is to forgive everything.


An idea that is developed and put into action is more important than an idea that exists only as an idea.


When you realize how perfect everything is you will tilt your head back and laugh at the sky.


Patience is key. Remember: A jug fills drop by drop.


Teach this triple truth to all: A generous heart, kind speech, and a life of service and compassion are the things which renew humanity.


Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.


A dog is not considered a good dog because he is a good barker. A man is not considered a good man because he is a good talker.


Have compassion for all beings, rich and poor alike; each has their suffering. Some suffer too much, others too little.


Work out your own salvation. Do not depend on others.


Every human being is the author of his own health or disease.


In the sky, there is no distinction of east and west; people create distinctions out of their own
minds and then believe them to be true.


If we could see the miracle of a single flower clearly, our whole life would change.


The darkest night is ignorance.


I never see what has been done, I only see what remains to be done.


Happiness will never come to those who fail to appreciate what they already have.


Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.


Overcome the angry by non-anger; overcome the wicked by goodness; overcome the miser by generosity; overcome the liar by truth.


The wise are controlled in bodily action, controlled in speech and controlled in thought. They are truly well-controlled.


Easily seen is the fault of others, but one's own fault is difficult to see. Like chaff one winnows another's faults, but hides one's own, even as a crafty fowler hides behind sham branches.


Not by shaven head does a man who is indisciplined and untruthful become a monk. How can he who is full of desire and greed be a monk?


He who wholly subdues evil both small and great is called a monk, because he has overcome all evil.


Let a man be watchful of speech, well controlled in mind, and not commit evil in bodily action. Let him purify these three courses of action, and win the path made known by the Great Sage.


The good shine from afar, like the Himalaya mountains. But the wicked are unseen, like arrows shot in the night.


If for company you cannot find a wise and prudent friend who leads a good life, then, like a king who leaves behind a conquered kingdom, or like a lone elephant in the elephant forest, you should go your way alone.


Good is virtue until life's end, good is faith that is steadfast, good is the acquisition of wisdom, and good is the avoidance of evil.


Just as a tree, though cut down, sprouts up again if its roots remain uncut and firm, even so, until the craving that lies dormant is rooted out, suffering springs up again and again.


Riches ruin only the foolish, not those in quest of the Beyond. By craving for riches the witless man ruins himself as well as others.


Not by birth does one become an outcaste, not by birth does one become a brahman. By one's action one becomes an outcaste, by one's action one becomes a brahman.


Faith is the best wealth for a man in this world. Righteousness when well practised brings happiness. Truth is the sweetest of flavours. They say the life of one living by wisdom is the best.


The tongue like a sharp knife… Kills without drawing blood.


Hatred does not cease by hatred, but only by love; this is the eternal rule.

Nothing can harm you as much as your own thoughts unguarded.


Nothing ever exists entirely alone; everything is in relation to everything else.

A man asked Gautama Buddha, "I want happiness." Buddha said, "First remove 'I' that is Ego, then remove 'want' that is Desire. See now you are left with only 'Happiness'"


What is evil? Killing is evil, lying is evil, slandering is evil, abuse is evil, gossip is evil, envy is evil, hatred is evil, to cling to false doctrine is evil; all these things are evil. And what is the root of evil? Desire is the root of evil, illusion is the root of evil.


She who knows life flows, feels no wear or tear, needs no mending or repair.


The Way is not in the sky; the Way is in the heart.


To become vegetarian is to step into the stream which leads to nirvana.


If you light a lamp for somebody, it will also brighten your path.


Kindness should become the natural way of life,not the exception.


Wear your ego like a loose fitting garment.


A family is a place where minds come in contact with one another. If these minds love one another the home will be as beautiful as a flower garden. But if these minds get out of harmony with one another it is like a storm that plays havoc with the garden.


Friendship is the only cure for hatred, the only guarantee of peace.


If you find no one to support you on the spiritual path, walk alone. There is no companionship with the immature.


In separateness lies the world's greatest misery; in compassion lies the world's true strength.


What you are is what you have been. What you'll be is what you do now.


If you propose to speak always ask yourself, is it true, is it necessary, is it kind.


If a traveller does not meet with one who is his better, or his equal, let him firmly keep to his solitary journey; there is no companionship with a fool.


People with opinions just go around bothering one another.


Be a lamp unto yourself. Work out your liberation with diligence.


Remembering a wrong is like carrying a burden on the mind.


There has to be evil so that good can prove its purity above it.


Most problems, if you give them enough time and space, will eventually wear themselves out.


Learn this from water: loud splashes the brook but the oceans depth are calm.


One moment can change a day, one day can change a life and one life can change the world.


Though one should live a hundred years without wisdom and control, yet better, indeed, is a single day’s life of one who is wise and meditative.


Happiness does not depend on what you have or who you are, it solely relies on what you think.


Look not to the faults of others, nor to their omissions and commissions. But rather look to your own acts, to what you have done and left undone.


Words have the power to both destroy and heal. When words are both true and kind, they can change our world.


The only real failure in life is not to be true to the best one knows.


Do not overlook tiny good actions, thinking they are of no benefit; even tiny drops of water in the end will fill a huge vessel.
Do not overlook negative actions merely because they are small; however small a spark may be, it can burn down a haystack as big as a mountain.


Following the Noble Path is like entering a dark room with a light in the hand; the darkness will all be cleared away, and the room will be filled with light.


Contentment is the greatest wealth.


Know well what leads you forward and what holds you back, and choose the path that leads to wisdom.


What you think, you become.
What you feel, you attract.
What you imagine, you create.


When you like a flower, you just pluck it. But when you love a flower, you water it daily.


To live a pure unselfish life, one must count nothing as one's own in the midst of abundance.


Your actions are your only belongings.


Ambition is like love, impatient of both delays and rivals.
